The Value Of Efficient IT Support Services

It is always the way when you buy a piece of software, you try to install it all seems to be going well when suddenly; the computer dies. Everything locks up the computer shouts warning messages at you and put simply, it just does not work. This is where installation support consultancy services can be a useful aid in getting your computer back in the land of the living and your software installed correctly.

The IT support business has long depended upon this kind of fault for regular trade. IT consultancy services are forever answering calls to help with installation support from their clients. Often the reasons behind failed installation procedures are simple and with a little know-how the problems can be easily remedied. The issue is however is that the most of us do not have the adequate knowledge.

Most IT support consultancy services will tell you that the majority of failed installation procedures are because another program is interfering with the installation. In order to rectify this problem installation support workers will shut down all current application so your computer is running with a ‘clean’ system tray. Anti-virus software can often interfere with installation processes as the protective measures can backfire and actually prevent installation. In the IT support business these are commonly known as conflicts.

The installation of minor pieces of software is relatively simple, surely you would feel a little foolish if you called an IT support business just for them to tell you to close all your applications and clean the installation CD. Most competent computer users will be able to find advice on the internet for all manner of installation tasks expelling the need to call out IT consultancy services.

There are times however when asking a professional installation support engineer is vital.

Such times as the complete re-booting of a computer are where installation support services come in handy. I personally remember a time where the only course to fix my computer was the complete installation of the operating software. I had no clue as to how to carry out this task and so utilized the manufacturers IT support helpline. The extremely helpful installation support specialist talked me through the process and without his help it is doubtful that I would have ever got the computer up and running again.

Some may see IT support services as overpriced but this could not be more wrong. Weigh up the price of installation support against the price of a new computer and the outlay suddenly seems much less. If you are like many people and would prefer not to start playing around with things that you do not understand IT support workers provide a valuable service.

Installation support engineers do not just fix the mistakes of novices however, they also provide a service for large businesses that are updating software or installing completely new systems. Some businesses do of course have in house IT support service but installation specialists can often be worth their weight in gold.

What you are paying for when utilizing installation support services is the knowledge, it can take a lifetime to become computer literate and those who work in the IT support industry have. What is a simple problem for them is often deeply frustrating for most computer users. What must be considered is the money saved when support workers are used, without their ability to fix our computers surely we would be forking out for new computers every six months.

How laptop power jacks break
Getting a new power jack installed by us
FAQ

Symptoms of a broken power jack:
- The laptop only runs when you keep the power cord in a certain direction.
- The laptop only runs on battery power.
- The laptop will not charge the battery.
- The laptop switches from AC power to battery power intermittently.
- The unit suddenly shuts off
- Sparks come out of the back of the laptop.

The wrong information some repair centers give:
While many conventional computer repair centers are aware of this issue and will refer you to us, most are not. Many, including the large nationwide stores and the laptop's manufacturer, will either tell you the machine is not repairable or that it needs a new motherboard. These quotes usually range from $500 - $800.
How jacks break:
- Some power jacks fail under normal operation of your computer. After a year or two of usage, parts just 'come loose' on certain models.
- Sometimes the laptop gets dropped and the cord yanks the jack loose.
- People, pets and vaccum cleaners all trip over laptop power cords on a daily basis.
- The laptop is moved around a lot. After the jack is moved back and forth enough times, it comes loose.

Getting a new power jack installed by us:
This is a repair we do on a daily basis on ALL brands of laptops for customers and other computer stores all over the US. We have almost every jack available in stock. A flat rate of $349 covers all parts and labor.

- Ship it over for as little as $10.

If you use your own packaging, shipping a laptop here via ground service is often only $10. Also, the UPS store & FedEx provide pakaging for a small fee. Please include a paper with your name, shipping address, email address and phone number with your laptop.

NOTE: If available, insure your package, it is only a few dollars. All packages should have adequate packaging to survive the trip. 99.7% of laptops make it here just fine but not packaging it in some bubble wrap, foam or peanuts is just asking for trouble.

FAQ:
Q. Can I keep my hard drive?
A. Yes. We are able to repair and test your laptop without your hard drive, so feel free to keep it or leave it in the machine, the choice is yours.

Q. Will this repair work on my laptop?
A. Yes, we repair the jack on all laptops for the flat rate of $349 except for these specific Dell models: Inspiron 1150, 5150,5160, 600m, 8500, 8600, 9300. Repair options for these models are available but please see our Inspiron repair page for details.

Q. What if you can't fix it?
A. On rare (2%) occasions, part of the motherboard is broken that the jack attaches to. This usually only happens if the cord was yanked out very hard. When the unit is opened and we note this, we do not do the repair and do not charge you for the jack repair. We will give you some options, including sending the laptop back, a quote on a replacement motherboard and other options.

Q. How long does it take?
A. We repair laptops in the order received. Turnaround time (as of December, 2006) is about 3 business days and fluctuates from 2 - 8 business days depending on workload. We stock all jacks to keep turnaround fast. The actual repair and testing takes around 3 hours. Many manufacturers want 8 - 12 weeks!

Q. Will it ever break again?
A. We do this repair daily and the laptop technicians performing the repair are very good at it, however, we can not redesign your laptop. Some jacks mount in to your laptop's motherboard by as few as three tiny pins. Some people consider this a poor design. Most laptops never return for service a second time, but note that on many models one good jerk will break the jack free again.
